Max's Creative Writing

As part of the school year ending, Max brought home some of his creative writing from 1st grade that we got a kick out of.  Not really sure where the whole cat thing came from, and that last one has quite the twist at the end.

Summer
Sunny days are best
Umm... what are we eating
Mmm.. I love hot dogs!
My summer vacation is for cookie cake and video games
Eh.. I am tired
Rrrr.. I don't want summer to end

The Best Pet
I think cats make the best pet in the world.  Because they are soft they are good to cuddle with.  Secondly, they chase mice out of your house.  Last, they don't have fleas.  That's why cats are epic pets.

Attack of the Devils!!
Me and my friends and family were digging.  Then the problem came.  We hit rock, that was bad.  Then we went over to my place.  Then we started to dig again, we got to the core of the earth then.  Ella let a rope down so we could get up then we got a rock and threw it at a wolf.  The wolf ran at us but it fell in the hole and died!!!  We went down in the hole.  I was scared that I was going to die like the wolf, but we noticed that there was devils and Ella died!  Dun, dun, dun!!!!

Emma and the Creepy Hour - Ella's First Book

As part of Ella's 2nd grade writing curriculum, all of the students wrote a short story.  Ella really got into it and wrote quite the little piece, complete with illustrations and everything.  Click on Read More to see Ella's manuscript completely unedited.  I should turn it into a real book on one of those websites, but I need her to redo all of the illustrations for it.

Here is the description that she wrote for the back of the book to prime you up for it.

A creepy case is on the chase!

A girl named Emma has dog she lets her brother borrow the dog.  The brother does something bad.  Will they find the dog?

Back to School

Another exciting school year begins here in Seattle.  For Max, it is his first official year starting Kindergarten while Ella began 2nd grade.  Both of them are attending Alcott Elementary and get to ride the bus together and everything.  Max only has school for half a day so he comes home earlier than Ella.

Highlights so far seem to be the extra curricular activities like art and running club along with library.  At least they look a little happier than last year's first day of school photos.

Back to School

Well the kids went back to school about 3 weeks ago now.  The end of summer also means the end of the nice weather that we had here.  Back to rain and drizzle, kind of a bummer, I could have used another month of sunshine.  So we booked some tickets to Florida in December for Max's birthday.  Head back to the home of the Mouse for a week to get some sunshine, have some fun, and visit our friends in Florida.

Ella started 1st grade this year, she is back to all day school again.  She is really liking it, she has 2 teachers instead of 1, and they seem to be doing a really good job.  She picked up reading pretty well over the summer and is turning into a bit of a bookworm.  Ella took up running club, I think with all of my running, biking, and going to gym, she has a big interest in working out.  Every Tuesday night, she and a couple of hundred kids just run around a makeshift track at school.  At the completion of every quarter mile lap they get a cube, or a block or something.  Then when they get done, they count their blocks to see how far they went. I guess she ran 2 miles this last Tuesday, that is pretty impressive in my opinion.

First Day of School

Meant to post this awhile ago.  The kids started school down in Florida back on August 26th.  Ella has started kindergarten, she is in school from 8:45am to 2:50pm every day (Wednesday's get out an hour early).  She is pretty excited about it.  It could be a little weird for her here in Sweden when we move because kids don't start school until they are 7, so she will actually go back into daycare, with next year being more like kindergarten as we know it.

Ella's First Field Trip

On Friday Ella's class took their first ever field trip to the local fire station. This was particularly exciting for Ella because her uncle Gene is a firefighter in Michigan.

She learned to call 911 in an emergency, and to freeze, drop, and roll if there is a fire, which she has been practicing over the weekend.

She said that she wants to be a fireman when she grows up now. She asked Max what he wants to be when he grows up and he said that he wanted to be a pirate. Ella told him that is only a costume and you can't be that.
